Volunteers
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Our work is grounded in service to residents, supporting people in building a communal understanding of the issues that affect our lives, and empowering us to take meaningful action. We welcome people at every level of experience, and build a growing local base to fight for a renewable, equitable, and accountable energy system led by community power.
We would love for you to join our committed group of activists fighting fossil fuels and for a sane energy future with creativity, community and determination. We have many ways to get involved, from making art to writing comments to regulators to helping lead a walking tour to lobbying, door knocking and tabling for events. If you’re interested in learning more, please fill out the form below and we will be in touch with you to invite you to join our upcoming events.
2026 Community Agreements
Introduction
Welcome to the movement, building a grassroots effort to end fossil fuels, protect our communities, and create a just, sustainable energy future for New York State. We won’t pay to be poisoned.
Community Commitments
We commit to:
Supporting and caring for all members, the frontline community surrounding the LNG facility, and the broader community of New York ratepayers joining the campaign.
Prioritizing safety, transparency, and accessibility. Members will receive clear instructions for any tasks and can always ask questions or provide feedback.
Welcoming all genders, races, ages, identities, and abilities. Discriminatory or prejudicial actions, behavior, or speech will not be tolerated. Polite and constructive communication is expected. While acknowledging varying degrees of understanding regarding gender, race, and class, we expect members to practice tolerance, courtesy, and active learning and to teach and learn from one another with patience and kindness.
Addressing conflicts through transparent and fair processes. If you feel unsafe or have a concern, you can raise it through the campaign’s conflict-resolution process.
Health and Safety
We prioritize the health and safety of our members.
Flexible indoor mask policies are supported, and masks are available for anyone who wants them.
Historical and Cultural Awareness
We recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and systemic oppression. We strive to work in service of those most affected by these systems.
We also recognize that we operate on stolen Native land, Occupied Munsee-Lenape Canarsie territory, and we do not condone cultural appropriation.
Communication & Onboarding
Information about actions is shared via a general Signal loop, email, and online calendar, with additional separate threads for specific events, actions, or topics for those who want to be involved. Conversations should remain relevant to each topic.
All members complete an onboarding process, including a group introduction to the campaign and a personal conversation with a member or staff to discuss questions, roles, and ways to participate. Additional training on gas systems, National Grid campaigns, or legislative advocacy will be offered based on interest.
Members are expected to respect privacy. No images of participants at non-public actions will be shared without explicit permission.
