Build Music into Our Climate Movement: Build Power, Connection.

  • El Jardin del Paraiso NYC 309 East 4th Street New York, NY, 10009 United States (map)

After the Albany Cuomo Walk The Talk On Climate event, we experienced how music can absolutely change the essence of an action. People who transformed the War Room into the SOLAR ROOM were led in song by Lu from The Peace Poets, and everyone we spoke to after than action expressed deep emotions specifically because of the music. We built power, community, and strengthened our movement.

A week later, Kim from Sane Energy attended a "Human Instrument" event with musician and teacher Nick Demeris, who studied under Bobby McFerrin. It was transformative, otherworldly and built deep bonds with total strangers. We are bringing Nick to NYC to build that with all of us. Please join us on June 17th from 5pm-7pm in El Jardín del Paraíso: the garden on E. 4th between Ave C & D -- We have a rain location nearby.

From Nick Demeris who will lead this workshop: "Since time long ago, before there were instruments, Human beings came together around fires, in forests, on mountain tops and at ocean sides to join there voices together to mark the changing of the seasons, to celebrate birth, commemorate death, exalt the night's sky, or bless a meal."

"Human Instruments is an experience that celebrates ourselves as beings of sounds, unlocking the power of the voice using techniques from jazz, blues, world music, freestyle rap and circle singing, practicing deep listening to ourselves and each other."
