Community Solar Teach-in

  • Neighborhood Preservation Center 232 East 11th Street New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

Learn more about how communities can reclaim their power source and get off fossil fuels and onto renewable energy!
We are excited to have Kelly Roache facilitate this workshop and teach us about community Solar and her work at Solstice!

80% of America is locked out of the solar market because they cannot install solar on their roof. Solstice radically expands access to clean energy by providing community-shared solar power to American households. This model enables any resident to enjoy clean energy at no upfront cost and save money on their electric bill every month. Solstice was recently selected for awards from Obvious Ventures, the Dept. of Energy, Echoing Green, and the Global Good Fund, and has been featured by the White House, Forbes, and Fast Company.

About Kelly Roache:
Kelly has years of experience working as a diplomat and activist fighting for human rights and social justice. At the US State Department, she helped achieve a humanitarian evacuation in Syria, advanced the U.S.-India bilateral relationship, and led an Ambassador-level review and overhaul of the goals and objectives of the U.S. Embassy to the UAE. While in graduate school, Kelly pivoted to intersectional social justice activism. As an organizer, Kelly led a campaign to divest Princeton University's endowment from corporations complicit in human rights violations in the Middle East, which won majority support among the student body. She has likewise campaigned for marriage equality and LBGTQIA+ rights in New Jersey. Kelly earned her BA cum laude and an MPA, both from Princeton. She loves traveling, studying foreign languages, reading contemporary fiction and feminist theory, and spending quality time with her little cousins and malshi puppy.
