Sane Energy presents Stringer with petitions at NYC rally

On Saturday, June 25th, at the Rally to Ban Fracking at Foley Square in NYC, Sane Energy Project presented Manhattan Borough President, Scott Stringer, with more than 2000 petitions against the Spectra pipeline. Stringer said, "I am proud to accept these petitions," and gave a rousing speech, the final portion of which can be viewed here: YouTube - Scott Stringer - Manhattan Borough President on Fracking

The rally came off wonderfully, despite equipment setbacks. Somewhere between 700-1000 people attended. Special guests included Senator Tony Avella, sponsor of ban bill 4220, and Gasland director, Josh Fox, who got the whole crowd to leave a message on Governor Cuomo's answering machine.

Earlier in the day, a small group formed a "human chain" along the blast radius of the Spectra pipeline on Gansevoort Street in the West Village.  Participants noted spray-painted markings and piles of 30" pipe already visible near where the underground vault is slated to be built.
